This trip takes you to the famous Spinalonga island, located at the east side of Crete. We will take you by our air conditioned buses from Makrigialos and Ierapetra until Agios Nikolaos, a small town with a picturesque harbour where you will see the magnificent lake, take pictures and create beautiful memories. From there we will take the boat to visit the island of Spinalonga, where you will be offered a guided tour and have enough free time to explore the island.The history and the culture of the island of Spinalonga became one with human tragedy in the course of time. This small isle carries within the history of Ancient Greece, as it was used as a Leper Colony until 1957 and there is a great history for you to find out behind this.
Spinalonga also served a natural guard for the ancient city of Olous, the history of the Saracens as a hide-out for their pirates, the history of Venetians as their fortress, the history of Turks as their settlement.
Our next stop will be the picturesque beach of Kolokitha, where you can dive into the crystal water, enjoy swimming and snorkeling, and have your lunch (BBQ) at the boat.
Our last stop of the trip will be back in Agios Nikolaos where you will have free time to walk around the town, enjoy shopping or a cup of coffee in the picturesque town center by the lake.
Tour Alternative: Spend all day in Agios Nikolaos – Available only on Wednesday
In case you are staying in Ierapetra and Sitia and would like to visit the town of Agios Nikolaos but not interested in visiting Spinalonga and join the rest of the trip, we offer the opportunity to transfer you to Agios Nikolaos with tour guide in the bus, drop you off in Agios Nikolaos where you will be staying all day (approx. 7 hours). After walking around the town center enjoying your coffee or lunch by the famous lake and of course shopping, we will transfer you back to your hotel.
Our first stop is in Agios Nikolaos harbour. From there we will take the boat to Spinalonga.
As soon as we arrive in Spinalonga you will be offered a guided tour from a licensed tour guide and have free time to explore the island.
Our next stop is Kolokitha beach, we will drop the anchor and stay for 1,5h. Enough time for swimming, snorkeling and also to enjoy the barbecue you will be offered on the boat!
Our last stop is in Agios Nikoalos where you will have more than an hour to walk around, enjoy shopping and your coffee by the lake.
