Its name derives from the plane trees “ platania” which grow at the shore of Platanias river which crosses the village. The oldest part of the village is at the top of a hill –called Pano Platanias- with picturesque streets, gardens full of flowers and great view at the top. There are some restaurants and cafes with stunning views. The modern part of the village is built towards the sea -Kato Platanias- and it is a busy main strip with shops, bars restaurants and cafes. The provided accommodation is dispersed in the whole village from the top of the hill to the waterfront. The long, sandy beach is interrupted by a small port and is very well organized and has been awarded with the Blue Flag award from the E.U. for several years. The village is very lively during the whole day and night.
