Margarites in Rethymno
Margarites is a small traditional settlement , near Eleutherna, almost 27 kms east of Rethymnon in the foothills of Mt. Psiloritis.
Margarites is one of the main centres of Cretan pottery along with Thrapsano.
Many craftsmen still use the old traditional techniques for small pieces of pottery or the large storage jars used in the Minoan period,
as evidenced by the large jars found in all Minoan palaces.
It is worth to visit the Pottery Exhibition from May 21st till August 15th, were it is explained the entire process of pottery, making as well as the fresco
churches in the village.
