Bali in Rethymno
The original fishing village of Bali is situated along the north coast of Crete, between Heraklio and Rethymno.
It is situated 20km east of Rethimnon. Although in the last few years the village has expanded into a popular resort, it has never lost its traditional character.
The first cove has a very small pebble beach with several tavernas and a luxury hotel.
The original village is in the second cove, where you will find most of the shops, hotels and tavernas, another beach and a small harbor.
The third cove, known as Paradise Beach, has the best beach in the area for swimming. There are mailing facilities and international telephone calls can be made.
There is no Port Police or Customs. The village has a pharmacy. Along the attractive small harbor you will find taverns serving fresh fish and a variety of traditional cretan food.
Along the bay of Varkotopos you will find beautiful and especially clean sandy beaches. In the green hilly surroundings you can make nice walks and bicycle trips.
It is also an ideal place for water sports with possibilities for diving, snorkeling, riding water bikes and canoeing. Bali has one A.T.M Machine.
Bali offers a good selection of water sports and a lively night life. There is also a campsite on the first beach. It is believed that Bali is built on the ancient town of
Astale, the seaport of Axos and you can see ancient ruins on both sides of the bay, especially on the west.
