Sougia in Chania
Sougia is a small settlement 70 km from Chania, built on the site of ancient Syia which was the harbor town of Elyros.
The town of Syia flourished during the Roman period as revealed by the excavations.
The excavations uncovered ancient walls, houses, reservoirs, baths, vaulted tombs and a Roman aqueduct, which supplied the town with water.
The aqueduct was destroyed by the Saracens. West of Sougia, there are the ruins of ancient Lissos.
